Drone attacks kill at least five across Ukraine on 22 June 2026
A retrospective on a day of Russian drone strikes that hit a vessel in the Black Sea and a family in Sumy Oblast.

What did Russian drone attacks cost Ukraine on 22 June 2026? According to Oleksiy Kuleba, Ukraine's deputy prime minister, at least five people were killed.
Among the dead was an Egyptian crew member aboard a Panamanian-flagged vessel in the Black Sea. The attack also damaged the ship and forced its crew to evacuate.
On land, three members of the same family were killed in Sumy Oblast, Kuleba said.
The strikes were part of the wider aerial warfare of the Russo-Ukrainian war. Drones have been a critical part of the invasion, particularly in combined arms warfare. Russia has also used them to strike Ukrainian critical infrastructure, while Ukraine has used them against military infrastructure in Russian territory.
