A look back at the shooting on the outskirts of the capital that wounded a driver and was deemed an assassination attempt.

What happened on 22 September 2021 near the village of Lisnyky, outside Kyiv? Gunmen opened fire on a vehicle carrying Serhiy Shefir, an official close to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and wounded the driver of the car.

Shefir was described in reports from that day as the first aide to the president of Ukraine. The attackers were unknown at the time of the first reports. The shooting was deemed an assassination attempt against Shefir.

The driver was the person reported wounded in the attack. The incident, which took place on the outskirts of the capital, drew attention because of Shefir's closeness to the head of state.
