Jeddah talks produce joint push for 30-day ceasefire

A retrospective on the US–Ukraine announcement in Saudi Arabia, and a French aid decision made two days earlier.

What did Kyiv and Washington agree in Saudi Arabia? On 11 March 2025, the United States and Ukraine announced their intention to seek a 30-day ceasefire with Russia after talks in Jeddah.

The US side was represented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. Ukraine's delegation included Andriy Yermak, the presidential chief of staff.

The announcement set out an intention to pursue a ceasefire with Russia, as reported at the time.

Aid from France

Two days earlier, on 9 March 2025, French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu said France would use €195 million in interest from Russian assets to fund a military aid package for Ukraine.
