Rada marks 1944–1951 deportations of Ukrainians from Poland
A parliamentary resolution adopted on 8 November 2018 provided for state-level commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the start of the deportations.

What did Ukraine's parliament decide about the memory of the deportations of Ukrainians from Poland? On 8 November 2018, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution on marking, at state level, the 75th anniversary of the start of the deportation of Ukrainians from Poland. The deportations took place between 1944 and 1951.
The resolution made the anniversary an occasion for official commemoration rather than leaving it to local or private initiative.
Church diplomacy days earlier
The vote came a few days after another development in Ukraine's public life. On 3 November 2018, President Petro Poroshenko signed an agreement on cooperation with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
The two items were separate: one a decision by parliament on historical remembrance, the other a presidential agreement with the head of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
