A retrospective on the publication of two closed-door depositions, including that of a former ambassador to Ukraine.

What did the first transcripts of the US impeachment inquiry reveal? On 4 November 2019, three U.S. House committees released the transcripts of the first two closed-door depositions in the inquiry into President Donald Trump. The committees were the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the Committee on Oversight and Reform and the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The testimonies came from Marie Yovanovitch, former Ambassador to Ukraine, and Michael McKinley, former Ambassador to Brazil.

Yovanovitch said she felt threatened by President Trump. McKinley said he resigned because he was concerned about the engagement of US missions in procuring negative political information for domestic purposes. He said he had never observed the State Department take part in anything of the kind during his career, with the exception of the Trump administration.

The release put the first two depositions of the inquiry on the public record.
