A look back at two items from Ukrainian public life around 27 October 2021, one from the Donbas front line and one from the judiciary.

What was happening on the front line in Donbas on 27 October 2021? According to Natalya Nikonorova, foreign minister of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Ukrainian troops regained control of the village of Staromaryivka, which lies in the so-called "grey zone" between Ukraine and the DPR.

The account came from the DPR side, and it was reported as part of coverage of the war in Donbas and Russia–Ukraine relations.

Five days earlier, on 22 October 2021, Vsevolod Kniaziev had been elected head of the Supreme Court of Ukraine. The election was part of the country's public institutional life in the same week as the Staromaryivka report.
