Transnistria's stance on Russia and Lavrov's widened war aims
A look back at two statements from 20 and 22 July 2022 touching on Russia's aims and Transnistria's future.

What did Moscow and Transnistria say about their goals in the final days of July 2022? On 22 July 2022, Transnistrian Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatyev reaffirmed that Transnistria was committed to becoming an independent state. He added that it was open to the possibility of uniting with Russia in the future.
Two days earlier, on 20 July 2022, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that his country's military goals in its invasion of Ukraine were no longer limited to the Donbas region. According to Lavrov, they now also included the Kherson region, the Zaporizhzhia region and a number of other territories.
The two statements came from different officials and concerned different places. Taken together, they show how Russian and Russia-linked officials were publicly describing their aims in the days around 22 July 2022.
