Two Ukrainian sporting achievements marked December 2018
A look back at victories by fencer Olha Kharlan and boxer Vasyl Lomachenko in the days around 10 December 2018.
What did Ukrainian sport have to celebrate on 10 December 2018? Two results stood out in the days around that date, one in fencing and one in boxing.
On 10 December 2018, fencer Olha Kharlan was recorded as the winner of the overall standings of the 2017–2018 sabre World Cup.
Two days earlier, on 8 December 2018, Vasyl Lomachenko beat José Pedraza. The win allowed him to unify the WBA and WBO world championship belts in the lightweight division for the first time in his career.
The two results, a season-long title in one sport and a unification bout in another, were reported within days of each other.
