A look back at 18 March 2020, when a major education law came into force a day after the appointment of a new Prosecutor General.

What did Ukraine's public institutions look like on 18 March 2020? It was a day in which one major law took effect and a key appointment was fresh.

On 18 March 2020, the law "On Complete General Secondary Education" entered into force.

The day before, on 17 March 2020, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine had given its approval, and President Volodymyr Zelensky had appointed Iryna Venediktova as Prosecutor General.

Together, the two developments marked a moment in which changes to the country's education framework and to the leadership of its prosecution service came within a day of each other.
