What Denmark and Spain signalled on Ukraine before 1 June 2024
Two announcements in the final days of May 2024 shaped the diplomatic backdrop to the start of June.

What had Ukraine's partners put on the table by 1 June 2024? Two announcements from the preceding days gave part of the answer.
On 27 May 2024, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez signed a bilateral security pact with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Spain also pledged €1 billion (US$1.1 billion) of military aid to Ukraine.
Three days later, on 30 May 2024, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said Denmark had approved Ukrainian airstrikes on Russian territory using Danish-supplied F-16 jets. The statement came during the 2024 Kharkiv offensive.
Taken together, the two announcements covered a formal security commitment backed by funding and a decision on how supplied aircraft could be used. Both were made in the context of military aid to Ukraine during the Russo-Ukrainian War.
