What did 23 August 2022 bring to the war?
A look back at a day of foreign military aid and reported shelling in Donetsk.

What did 23 August 2022 add to the picture of the war in Ukraine? Two developments stood out, one about support from abroad and one about fighting in the east.
Slovakia announced that it would send an additional 30 BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles and ammunition to Ukraine. The pledge formed part of the foreign aid flowing to Ukraine during the Russo-Ukrainian War.
On the same day, Ukrainian forces reportedly shelled the administration headquarters of the Donetsk People's Republic in separatist-held Donetsk. According to pro-Russian officials, three people were killed. The claim came from those officials, as reported at the time.
Taken together, the two reports from 23 August 2022 reflect two strands of the Battle of Donbas and the wider invasion: the continuing supply of armoured vehicles and ammunition from a neighbouring country, and the reported strikes on a separatist-held administrative centre.
