What did Nordic aid pledges signal by 23 February 2024?
A look back at two Nordic military aid announcements made in the days before 23 February 2024.

What did Ukraine's partners in northern Europe have to offer as 23 February 2024 arrived? Two announcements from the preceding days offer a view.
On 18 February 2024, Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen announced that her country would donate all of its artillery shells to Ukraine. The pledge covered the whole of Denmark's stock of that ammunition, not a portion of it.
Two days later, on 20 February 2024, Sweden donated its largest military aid package to Ukraine to date, a further $680 million in aid.
Taken together, the two announcements show smaller European states committing substantial resources within a few days of each other. Denmark gave up its entire artillery shell stock, and Sweden set a new high for its own contributions.
The reports from those days give the headline commitments, not the details of delivery. What they establish is the scale of each pledge: one country handing over all its artillery shells, the other announcing its biggest package so far.
