What did Ukraine's news cycle look like by 18 April 2018?

A look back at the reports that had accumulated in Ukraine by 18 April 2018, from a deadly road crash to a flooding mine in occupied Donetsk region.

What was Ukraine reading about by 18 April 2018? The reports from the preceding days pointed in several directions, among them a road disaster, a mine in the occupied east and a new broadcast signal.

On 17 April 2018, a collision in Kryvyi Rih involving a passenger car, a minibus and a bus left nine people dead and 21 injured.

In the occupied east, reports from 14 April 2018 said that militants of the self-proclaimed "DNR" had begun flooding the Yunkom mine in Yenakiieve. A nuclear explosion was carried out at the mine on 16 September 1979.

On the information front, the television channel UATV had begun test-mode broadcasting to the occupied territories of Luhansk region on 12 April 2018.

Beyond Ukraine, on 14 April 2018, during the bombing of Damascus and Homs, Russia called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council while considering supplying S-300 missile systems to Syria.
