What did Ukraine's quarantine rules ask of people by 9 April 2020?

A look back at the Cabinet of Ministers' restrictions, which took effect on 6 April 2020, as the coronavirus quarantine tightened.

What did it mean, on 9 April 2020, to live under Ukraine's coronavirus quarantine? Three days earlier, on 6 April 2020, a ban imposed by the Cabinet of Ministers had taken effect, and it shaped everyday life across the country.

The rules were specific. People were barred from being in public places without a mask or respirator, and without their documents. Walks in parks and public gardens were prohibited. Moving around in a group of more than two was also forbidden.

The government placed a further obligation on older citizens: those over 60 were required to self-isolate for the duration of the quarantine.

Taken together, the measures marked a shift from general advice to enforceable restrictions on ordinary movement and gathering. By 9 April 2020, residents were adjusting to a regime in which even a stroll in a park or a trip out without identification fell under the ban.
