What did Yushchenko say about Russia after the Skripal poisoning?

A look back at reactions reported in the days before 30 March 2018, including a call from Kyiv's former president and a Polish missile purchase.

What was being said in Ukraine's political orbit as 30 March 2018 arrived? Among the reactions reported in the preceding days to the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal was one from Viktor Yushchenko, a former Ukrainian President.

On 28 March 2018, Yushchenko called for military action against Russia to be considered. He spoke as someone with direct experience of the issue: he was himself the victim of a poisoning in September 2004.

The same day, a separate development was reported in the region. Poland signed a deal with the United States to buy a Patriot missile system for US$4.75 billion.

The two reports were unrelated in origin, but both showed security questions being discussed in Ukraine's neighbourhood in the closing days of March 2018.
