A look back at the political upheaval in Kyiv in the days around 5 March 2020, when a new cabinet was being assembled.

What did Ukraine's government look like on 5 March 2020? It was in transition. The previous day, the Verkhovna Rada had accepted the resignation of the government of Oleksiy Honcharuk and begun forming a government under Denys Shmygal.

Honcharuk and his ministers were voted out after less than six months in office. President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed Shmygal as Prime Minister, setting in motion the formation of a new cabinet.

Flight 752 still on the agenda

Also on 4 March 2020, Canadian Foreign Minister François-Philippe Champagne urged Iran to allow access to the flight recorders of the Ukrainian passenger plane shot down in January. The aircraft was Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752, a Boeing 737-800 flying from Tehran to Kyiv. It was shot down on 8 January 2020 by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps shortly after takeoff, killing all 176 people on board.
