What Kyiv and Chisinau signalled in early April 2026
A look back at two decisions, one in Ukraine and one in Moldova, reported around 3 April 2026.

What did the first days of April 2026 say about the direction of Ukraine and its neighbour Moldova? On 3 April 2026, two recent decisions stood out.
On 1 April, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers approved the National Programme for adapting Ukrainian legislation to European Union law, the EU acquis. The programme contains about 1,850 tasks, which provide for implementing more than 1,600 acts of EU law.
On 2 April, Moldova's parliament approved the country's withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States. The government argued that the organisation's core values and principles, such as territorial integrity and the inviolability of borders, were no longer respected. It pointed to Russia's actions in the region, including the war against Ukraine and the illegal military presence on Moldovan territory.
The two decisions came a day apart. One set out a detailed legislative workload in Kyiv, while the other formally ended a membership in Chisinau.
