What Russia's stated war aims signalled by 25 July 2022
A look back at statements from Moscow and Transnistria in the days before 25 July 2022.

What had Russia said about its aims in Ukraine by 25 July 2022? Reports from the preceding days pointed to a widening of stated goals.
On 20 July 2022, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said his country's military goals were no longer limited to the Donbas region. They now also included, in his words as reported, the Kherson region, the Zaporizhzhia region and a number of other territories.
Two days later, on 22 July 2022, Transnistrian Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatyev reaffirmed that Transnistria was committed to becoming an independent state. He added that it was open to the possibility of uniting with Russia in the future.
The two statements came from different officials and concerned different places. Together they formed part of the public record of Russian and Russia-aligned positions in the days leading up to 25 July 2022.
