A look back at strikes on Kryvyi Rih and Kyiv and Ukrainian drone attacks in Tatarstan in the days before 23 January 2025.

What did the war look like in the days leading up to 23 January 2025? Reports from the preceding week describe attacks in both directions, with civilians again among the casualties in Ukraine.

On 18 January 2025, a Russian ballistic missile strike on Kryvyi Rih killed four people and injured 14 others, according to the Governor of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Serhiy Lysak. The same day, at least four people were killed in Russian missile and drone attacks on Kyiv.

Two days later, on 20 January 2025, Ukrainian drones attacked industrial facilities in Tatarstan, Russia. The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency temporarily suspended flights at Kazan International Airport in Kazan and at Begishevo Airport in Nizhnekamsk.

Taken together, these reports show strikes reaching a Ukrainian industrial city and the capital, and Ukrainian drones reaching industrial sites in Tatarstan, with flights at two Russian airports briefly halted as a result.
