What Ukraine's EU screening and Denmark mission meant by 2 October 2025

A look back at two developments reported in the final days of September 2025, as Kyiv pursued EU accession and shared drone expertise.

What had Kyiv achieved by 2 October 2025 on its path towards Europe? Two developments reported in the preceding days gave the answer: one in EU accession, the other in security cooperation.

On 30 September 2025, Ukraine was reported to have completed the screening of its legislation for compliance with the EU's acquis communautaire, a step in the process of joining the European Union.

On the same date, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was reported to have deployed a Ukrainian military mission to Denmark. Its purpose was to share Ukraine's expertise in countering Russian drones. The deployment came as European countries planned a joint "drone wall" project to strengthen airspace defence, and it was linked to the 2025 Danish drone incidents.

Taken together, the reports showed Ukraine on 2 October 2025 both advancing its formal EU alignment and offering practical experience to European partners on air defence against drones.
