Who led Ukraine's parliament after Razumkov's removal?

A look back at the Verkhovna Rada's leadership change in the days before 11 October 2021.

Who was running Ukraine's parliament on 11 October 2021? By then, the Verkhovna Rada had changed its speaker within the space of a few days.

On 7 October 2021, the Verkhovna Rada voted to dismiss Dmytro Razumkov from the post of speaker. He was removed following disagreements with President Volodymyr Zelensky and the ruling Servant of the People party over their stances on legislation aimed at reducing the influence of Ukrainian oligarchs.

On 8 October 2021, the Rada elected Ruslan Stefanchuk as the new head of parliament. The two votes, one day apart, settled the question of who would chair the chamber.

The change took place in the 9th convocation of the Verkhovna Rada, the unicameral parliament that meets in Kyiv. That convocation began its term on 29 August 2019, after the last session of the 8th Verkhovna Rada.

By 11 October 2021, the parliament therefore had a new speaker, and the dispute over oligarch-related legislation had cost his predecessor the post.
