Zelenskyy's Warsaw visit and the Order of the White Eagle
A look back at the official trip to Poland during which Ukraine's president was honoured by his Polish counterpart.
What did Volodymyr Zelenskyy's official visit to Poland amount to on 5 April 2023? In concrete terms, it produced a ceremonial honour: the President of Ukraine was awarded the Order of the White Eagle, Poland's highest order.
The award was presented during his meeting with Polish President Andrzej Duda. The visit was an official one, and it formed part of the series of foreign trips Zelenskyy made during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The decoration was the central public outcome of the day, as reported at the time. The trip placed the Ukrainian president in direct talks with the Polish head of state, and the order marked the occasion at the highest level of Polish state recognition.
