Ukraine's COVID-19 daily death toll hit a record on 23 March 2021
A look back at a day of record COVID-19 deaths in Ukraine, with a lockdown already under way in the capital.

How bad had Ukraine's third COVID-19 wave become by 23 March 2021? The country reported a record 333 deaths from the disease in the preceding 24 hours, bringing the nationwide death toll to 30,431.
The figure exceeded the previous record, set on 17 March 2021, when 289 deaths were reported in 24 hours and the national toll stood at 28,986. Within six days, the cumulative toll had risen by 1,445.
Kyiv was already under tighter restrictions. On 18 March 2021, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced a three-week lockdown in the city, starting on 20 March. It closed all cultural institutions and many non-essential shopping and entertainment malls, a step taken because of an increase in COVID-19 cases.
The numbers reported on 23 March 2021 showed the pressure on the country as the capital's lockdown entered its fourth day.
