Ukraine's COVID-19 toll hit new daily record on 19 November 2020
A look back at the day Ukraine reported 257 deaths in 24 hours, a day after the national toll passed 10,000.

How quickly was the pandemic worsening in Ukraine by 19 November 2020? The day's figures gave a stark answer: a record 257 new deaths and 13,357 new cases reported over the previous 24 hours.
The new numbers took the nationwide death toll to 10,369 and the total number of recorded cases to 583,510.
A second record in two days
The daily record was the second in succession. On 18 November 2020, Ukraine had passed 10,000 total deaths from COVID-19 after 256 new fatalities were reported in the previous 24 hours, then the highest daily figure. A single death more was enough to set the new mark the following day.
Neighbouring crisis
Elsewhere in the region, attention was also on Belarus. On 17 November 2020, opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called on European leaders to impose sanctions on supporters of President Alexander Lukashenko, after police used tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades to disperse protesters.
