A look back at the daily figures that marked a grim point in the country's pandemic spring.

What did a single day's numbers say about Ukraine's pandemic by spring 2021? On 2 April 2021, the country reported a record 19,893 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 433 deaths.

The figures brought the nationwide total of confirmed cases to 1.71 million and the death toll to 33,679.

The daily death count had already set a record two days earlier. On 31 March 2021, Ukraine reported 407 deaths in the previous 24 hours, which brought the nationwide toll to 32,825.

Taken together, the two reports show how quickly the toll rose in those days. Between the 31 March and 2 April figures, the cumulative death toll increased by 854, and the daily death count passed its own record within two days, from 407 to 433.

The reports placed Ukraine among the countries in Europe facing a severe stage of the pandemic at the start of April 2021.
