Ukraine's reported expulsion of two Iranians over missile purchase bid

Posted: | Filed under: Society | by Borderland staff

A look back at a report, from the days before 4 April 2018, that Kyiv expelled two Iranians accused of trying to buy a Kh-31 missile.

What had Ukraine's government said about two Iranians in the days before 4 April 2018? On 30 March 2018, it stated that it had expelled them earlier that year for attempting to buy a Kh-31 missile in Kyiv.

According to the government, the attempted purchase violated United Nations sanctions. That was the basis given for the expulsions.

The statement was one of the items in the news flow on the eve of the covered date. A separate report, dated 3 April 2018, concerned Latvia and Russia: Russian MPs called for sanctions against Latvia in response to plans to make Latvian mandatory for all students in the country's secondary schools. The report noted that a quarter of Latvia's population is ethnic Russian.
