What happened in Ukraine's cities during the 8 July 2024 missile attack?

A retrospective on the Russian missile barrage that hit residential buildings and civilian infrastructure, including a children's hospital in Kyiv.

What did the Russian missile attack on 8 July 2024 do to Ukraine's cities? Russia launched a massive strike that day, hitting residential buildings and civilian infrastructure in cities across the country. Among the sites hit was the Okhmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv.

As reported at the time, at least 47 people were killed and 189 others were injured. A later account of the attack puts the number of injured at about 170, and the death toll at the same minimum of 47.

Cities under fire

Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro, Kropyvnytskyi and Pokrovsk came under fire. According to that later account, the Russian military used more than forty missiles in the attack.

The strike fell within the wider pattern of Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure during the invasion. On 8 July 2024 it reached homes, civilian facilities and a hospital for children in the capital.
