A look back at two border-related events reported in the days before 28 November 2018, one at sea and one at western crossing points.

What was the situation on Ukraine's borders as of 28 November 2018? Two developments reported on 25 November dominated the picture, one in the Kerch Strait and one along the western frontier.

In the Kerch Strait, a Russian border patrol ship, the Don, rammed the Ukrainian Navy tugboat Yani Kapu near the strait. The Ukrainian naval group was moving from Odesa to Mariupol at the time. Russian forces then opened fire on the group. As reported, three Ukrainian vessels were seized and 23 sailors were taken prisoner, six of them wounded.

The same day, a different kind of border story unfolded in the west. Owners of cars with foreign registration, known as "eurobliakhary", blocked checkpoints on the western section of Ukraine's border.

Both events were still being reported by 28 November 2018.
