Attack in Kyiv and a planned trade deal with Turkey

A look back at two items from Ukraine's news record in early February 2022: an assault on a prosecutor's aide and an agreement due to be signed with Ankara.

What was happening in Ukrainian public life on 8 February 2022? Two reports from the preceding days stood out: an attack in the capital and preparations for a trade agreement with Turkey.

On 7 February 2022, an assault took place in Kyiv on an aide to Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova. The reports available at the time named the victim only as her assistant.

A few days earlier, on 3 February 2022, it was reported that the official visit of Turkey's president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was expected to include the signing of a free trade zone agreement between the two countries.

Together, the two items showed a public agenda that combined security concerns in Kyiv with economic diplomacy abroad.
