Bus convoy shelled near Borova as Finland weighs NATO

A look back at two developments reported around 14 April 2022: an attack on an evacuation convoy in Ukraine and a Finnish signal on NATO membership.

What did the news from Ukraine and its neighbourhood look like on 14 April 2022? It included an attack on civilians fleeing a front-line community and a statement from Helsinki on the future of European security.

Russian forces opened fire on a convoy of buses that was evacuating residents from Borova, as reported at the time. Seven people were killed and 27 were wounded.

The day before, on 13 April 2022, Finnish prime minister Sanna Marin said Finland would decide on NATO membership within weeks. Her remarks came after Russia warned the country against joining the Western military alliance.
