What was known about the Chuhuiv air disaster on 1 October 2020, six days after it happened? The crash on 25 September 2020 had already left a lasting mark on Kharkiv Oblast and on the country's military education.
The An-26Sh training aircraft came down near Chuhuiv in Kharkiv Oblast while approaching to land, as reported at the time. It was carrying cadets from the Kharkiv Air Force University on a training flight. Twenty-six people were killed and another person was wounded, according to the reports of 25 September.
Background on the crash adds that 27 people were on board, one of whom survived, and that the aircraft was destroyed. The plane, tail number 76, belonged to the 203rd Training Aviation Brigade.
Ukraine declared 26 September 2020 a day of mourning, the day after the crash.
