Posted: | Filed under: Regions | by Borderland staff

A look back at reported attacks on Kherson Oblast and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in the days leading up to 4 May 2023.

What had Russian attacks done to Ukraine's regions by 4 May 2023? Reports from the preceding days pointed to heavy civilian harm in both the south and the centre-east of the country.

On 3 May 2023, Russian forces shelled Kherson Oblast, killing 16 civilians and injuring 22 others.

Two days earlier, on 1 May 2023, Russia launched cruise missile and drone strikes across Ukraine. Among the targets hit was an industrial zone in Pavlohrad, in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. A large explosion there damaged or destroyed 19 apartment buildings and 25 homes, and 34 people were reportedly injured. Ukrainian forces said they had shot down 15 of the 18 missiles Russia launched.

Taken together, the reports from 1 and 3 May described attacks that reached residential areas in two different oblasts, with casualties in Kherson Oblast and widespread housing damage around Pavlohrad.
