Kherson bus drone strike and Kursk push: 6 January 2025
A look back at a day when a drone hit a passenger bus in Kherson, days after a new Ukrainian offensive in Kursk Oblast.

What did the front look like on 6 January 2025? In the south, a Russian drone attacked a civilian passenger bus in Kherson, reportedly killing at least one person and injuring at least nine others.
Kherson had been shelled repeatedly throughout the Russian invasion, and those attacks intensified after the city was liberated, according to later background accounts of the strikes on the city.
Kursk and the east
The previous day, 5 January 2025, the Ukrainian Army launched a new offensive in Kursk Oblast in Russia. The report gave no further detail on its scale or objectives.
On 4 January 2025, a war correspondent for the Russian newspaper Izvestia was killed in a Ukrainian drone strike in Donetsk Oblast. Donetsk, together with Luhansk and Kharkiv, has been a theatre of operations in the east since the start of the war in February 2022.
Taken together, the reports from 4 to 6 January 2025 show fighting on several fronts: drone attacks on civilians in the south, a cross-border offensive in Russia's Kursk Oblast, and continuing hostilities in the Donetsk region.
