Kherson left without power as shelling struck the south
A look back at the southern Ukrainian city's plight on 15 December 2022, and at a separate regional dispute reported a day earlier.

What did the situation in Kherson look like on 15 December 2022? Shelling by Russian forces killed two people and left the entire city without power, according to reports from the Southern Ukraine campaign.
The loss of electricity across a whole city meant that the consequences of the attack reached well beyond the immediate casualties. Residents were affected collectively, not only those in the districts that were hit.
A separate regional strain
The previous day, 14 December 2022, a different dispute surfaced in the wider region. Members of parliament from Armenia's governing coalition accused Russia of wanting to drag Armenia into a new war with neighbouring Azerbaijan. They also criticised the conduct of Russian peacekeepers, amid a renewed crisis following the Lachin blockade and worsening relations between Armenia and Russia.
The two reports concern different places and different circumstances. Taken together, they show pressure on civilians and on political relationships across the region in mid-December 2022.
