Kherson TV tower hit as Russia reports blasts near border
Reports from 26 and 27 April 2022 described strikes in southern Ukraine, explosions in Russian border regions and a security meeting in Moldova.

What was happening across Ukraine's south and border regions in the days around 28 April 2022? Reports from 26 and 27 April pointed to a widening set of incidents.
On 27 April, the Ukrainian Air Force struck the Kherson TV Tower with a missile, temporarily forcing Russian television off the air in the occupied Kherson Oblast. The same day, Oleksandr Kobets was appointed de facto mayor of the city of Kherson, which Russian forces had occupied since 2 March.
Russia said on 27 April that its air defences had shot down a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle over Kursk Oblast, while several explosions and a fire at an ammunition depot were reported in Belgorod Oblast. Ukraine described the explosions in Russia as "payback" and "karma" for Moscow's invasion. Russia also said it had struck 59 Ukrainian weapon facilities overnight, including a depot in Zaporizhzhia Oblast that it said stored weapons from the United States and Europe.
In Odesa Oblast, a Russian missile strike destroyed a strategic bridge across the Dniester Estuary on 26 April, according to Ukrainian authorities.
On the same date, Moldova's Supreme Security Council convened an emergency meeting after attacks in the breakaway region of Transnistria the previous day. President Maia Sandu said the attacks were aimed at destabilising the situation in the region, and said the military would improve combat readiness and increase patrols on the border with Transnistria.
