Kropyvnytskyi region renaming sent to court; football bans
A look back at a day when Ukraine's parliament had just backed a regional renaming and football's governing body handed down lifetime bans.

What did Ukraine's regional and public agenda look like on 21 November 2018? Two items stood out: a decision on the name of a region, and a disciplinary ruling in football.
On 20 November 2018, the Verkhovna Rada voted to rename Kirovohrad Oblast as Kropyvnytskyi Oblast. The legislature then sent the bill to the Constitutional Court, so the change remained subject to that review.
On 21 November 2018, the Ukrainian Football Federation permanently banned six former players of Olimpik Donetsk. The decision followed its examination of a case involving match-fixing.
The two developments were unrelated, but both showed public institutions making formal decisions about the regions' names and their sporting life.
