Lviv and Shostka attacks in the days before 6 October 2025

A look back at two Russian strikes on civilian targets in western and north-eastern Ukraine reported on 4 and 5 October 2025.

What had Russia's latest strikes done to Ukraine's regions by 6 October 2025? Reports from the preceding two days pointed to deaths and injuries in Lviv and in Sumy Oblast.

On 5 October 2025, at least five people were killed in Lviv during an overnight Russian attack. As reported at the time, it involved 53 ballistic and cruise missiles and 496 drones.

A day earlier, on 4 October 2025, Russian drone strikes hit two passenger trains at a rail station in Shostka, Sumy Oblast. One person was killed and at least 30 were injured.

The two incidents, in a western city and in a north-eastern border region, showed civilian sites being hit in widely separated parts of the country in the run-up to 6 October 2025.
