Odesa stadium strike postponed a Premier League match
A look back at the Russian drone strike on Chornomorets Stadium and other attacks reported across Ukraine in the days before 12 August 2026.

What did the opening days of the 2026–27 Ukrainian Premier League season look like under Russian fire? By 12 August 2026, the answer was already visible in Odesa, where a strike on a football ground had forced a fixture to be called off.
On 7 August 2026, a Russian drone strike hit the Chornomorets Stadium in Odesa. Oleh Kiper, governor of Odesa Oblast, reported that two people were injured in the strikes. The season was the 36th top-level football competition in Ukraine since the fall of the Soviet Union and the 19th since the establishment of the Ukrainian Premier League.
The same day, FC Chornomorets Odesa announced on Telegram that its match against FC Kolos Kovalivka was postponed after its home stadium was hit.
A wider pattern of strikes
The attack on the stadium came a day after a night of strikes elsewhere. On 6 August 2026, six people were killed in Russian airstrikes across Ukraine, including three civilians in Kharkiv Oblast. In the city of Kherson, a total power outage occurred after critical infrastructure was targeted overnight by Russian drones.
Odesa and its surrounding region had been targeted by Russian shelling and air strikes on multiple occasions since the conflict began, and strikes on energy infrastructure had formed a continuing part of the war.
The events of 6 and 7 August showed how the strikes reached both everyday public life and basic services: a sporting fixture was postponed in one region, while a city in another lost all its power.
