Ovruch train grenade attack kills four on 24 October 2025
A look back at the grenade explosion on a train in Zhytomyr Oblast, and at a Kharkiv kindergarten strike two days earlier.

What happened at the Ovruch railway platform on 24 October 2025? On the morning of that day, a man detonated a grenade on a train in Ovruch, Zhytomyr Oblast. The blast killed three women and a border guard and wounded 12 other people. The attacker also died in the explosion.
The attack happened while State Border Guard Service officers were checking passengers' documents on a diesel train platform. The perpetrator was identified as a 23-year-old man from Kharkiv. He was a fugitive, and had recently been detained for attempting to violate the state border in its western section.
Kharkiv strike two days earlier
The attack came two days after Russian drones hit a kindergarten in Kholodnohirskyi District of Kharkiv on 22 October 2025. One person was killed and six others were injured in that strike.
The two incidents were separate. The Ovruch attack was carried out by a man from Kharkiv Oblast's regional centre who died in his own blast, while the Kharkiv strike was part of the Russian drone attacks on the city during the war.
