How did an Afghan film director end up in Kyiv? By 18 August 2021, the answer had been reported: after the Taliban seized Kabul, Sahraa Karimi was evacuated from Afghanistan to the Ukrainian capital.
Karimi was known as a prominent Afghan director and as general director of the state film company Afghan Film. The report of her evacuation was dated 17 August 2021, the day before the date covered here.
A separate loss in Ukraine
The same period brought sad news inside Ukraine. On 15 August 2021, the mayor of Kryvyi Rih, Kostiantyn Pavlov, was found dead in his home.
