A look back at what was reported from Ukraine's regions in the days up to 22 November 2022, from the occupied nuclear plant to cities hit by cruise missiles.

What was happening in Ukraine's regions by 22 November 2022? Reports from the preceding days pointed to continued danger around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and to renewed missile attacks on several cities.

On 20 November 2022, the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Enerhodar was shelled. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, some buildings, systems and equipment were damaged.

Three days earlier, on 17 November 2022, Russia carried out another wave of cruise missile strikes as part of the October–November 2022 nationwide missile strikes on Ukraine. Strikes were reported in Dnipro, Odesa, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia. In Zaporizhzhia, two people were confirmed killed overnight by a missile. Critical infrastructure was also targeted in Dnipro and Odesa.

The same day brought a legal development tied to the war's earlier phase. A court in the Netherlands sentenced two Russians, Igor Strelkov-Girkin and Sergey Dubinsky, and a Ukrainian pro-Russian separatist, Leonid Kharchenko, to life imprisonment for shooting down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over Donetsk Oblast in 2014. The verdict was delivered in the defendants' absence.
