Slovyansk rail bridge destroyed as Bulgaria warned citizens off Moldova
A look back at 29 April 2022, when a Russian air strike reportedly took out a key rail crossing in Donetsk region and a neighbouring warning spread over Moldova.

What happened on 29 April 2022 on the eastern front, and what was being said about Moldova the day before? Two reports from those days give a partial picture.
On 29 April 2022, a Russian air strike destroyed a large railway bridge linking Slovyansk and Lyman across the Siverskyi Donets river, according to Sentinel-2 satellite imagery. The strike followed reports from US Defense Department officials that Russian forces appeared to be advancing towards Slovyansk and Baranivka.
Warning over Moldova
On 28 April 2022, Bulgaria called on its citizens to leave Moldova immediately by any available means of transport, citing a complicating situation in the country. It also warned against any travel there. The call came in the context of what is now referred to as the 2022 Transnistria attacks.
The two reports concerned different places, but both showed how far the effects of the war were being felt: in the destruction of transport infrastructure in eastern Ukraine, and in a government advisory to citizens in a neighbouring country.
