Two reports from Ukraine's regions before 21 December 2023
A grenade blast at a village council in Zakarpattia and a reported strike in occupied Kherson Raion marked the days leading up to that date.

What had been reported from Ukraine's regions by 21 December 2023? Two incidents in the preceding days stood out, one in the far west and one in the south.
On 15 December 2023, a councillor detonated three grenades at a meeting of the village council of Keretsky in Zakarpattia Oblast. The blast injured 27 people, including the councillor himself.
On 16 December 2023, Russia said that two civilians had been killed and two others injured in a Ukrainian missile strike on the Russian-occupied village of Nova Maiachka in Kherson Raion. The claim came from the Russian side and was part of the reporting on the southern Ukraine campaign during the Russian invasion.
The two events were unconnected, and they showed how differently the war and public life touched Ukraine's regions: one a violent episode inside a local council in Zakarpattia, the other an exchange of fire in occupied territory in the south.
