Two sanctions and court cases from 11 February 2025
A look back at a day of Western sanctions on a Russian hosting provider and a European human rights court's decision on border pushback cases.

What did the world's legal and sanctions machinery do on 11 February 2025? Two announcements stood out, one aimed at cybercrime infrastructure and one at the treatment of migrants on the border between Belarus and the European Union.
Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States announced sanctions on a Russian provider of bulletproof hosting services. The provider was accused of ignoring law enforcement requests. The measures also covered two Russians who were operating the network.
The same day, the European Court of Human Rights said it would consider three cases connected to the Belarus–European Union border crisis. The cases involve irregular migrants who allege they were pushed back across the border into Belarus from EU countries.
The two announcements came from different institutions and concerned different subjects. One was a coordinated move by three governments against a hosting network. The other was a decision by a European court to take up individual complaints from migrants about pushbacks.
