What did Ukraine's renaming of Kirovohrad region involve?

A look back at the parliamentary decision on the region's name, taken two days before 22 November 2018, and a football disciplinary ruling issued the day before.

What was the status of Ukraine's regional map on 22 November 2018? Two days earlier, on 20 November 2018, the Verkhovna Rada had decided to rename Kirovohrad region as Kropyvnytskyi region. It then sent the bill to the Constitutional Court.

The referral matters for process. The parliamentary vote did not close the matter: the draft went to the Constitutional Court, so the name change was still awaiting that body's review as of 22 November 2018.

A separate item from the same days concerned public institutions outside government. On 21 November 2018, the Football Federation of Ukraine banned six former players of FC Olimpik (Donetsk) for life after examining a case about match-fixing.

The two items are unrelated in subject, and nothing links them beyond the dates. Together they show a parliament moving a regional naming question into the constitutional review stage and a sporting body applying its harshest sanction in an integrity case.
