What happened after the Ovruch train grenade attack of 24 October

A look back at the grenade blast on a train in Zhytomyr Oblast that killed four people and wounded 12 others.

What was known on 25 October 2025 about the grenade attack on a train in Ovruch, in Ukraine's Zhytomyr Oblast? The attack had taken place the previous morning, on 24 October 2025, and its basic toll was already clear.

A man detonated a grenade on the train, killing three women and a border guard and wounding 12 other people. The perpetrator also died in the explosion. He was a fugitive from Kharkiv.

Where it happened

The blast came while State Border Guard Service officers were checking passengers' documents on a diesel train platform. Three of the dead were civilian women, and the fourth was a border guard.

The attacker

The perpetrator was identified as a 23-year-old man from Kharkiv. He had recently been detained for attempting to violate the state border in its western section.

The attack in Ovruch left four people dead, in addition to the attacker, and a further 12 injured.
