What Russia claimed in north-eastern Kharkiv Oblast on 3 September 2026

Posted: | Filed under: Regions | by Borderland staff

A look back at Russian claims of captured settlements and encirclement in a region contested since 2024.

What did Russian forces say they had achieved in Kharkiv Oblast on 3 September 2026? They said they had captured several settlements in the north-east of the oblast and had encircled Ukrainian forces there.

The claim came from the Russian side, as part of what is described as the Kharkiv Oblast campaign of the Russo-Ukrainian war. The report of 3 September 2026 did not name the settlements in question.

A front active since 2024

Russian forces have been engaged on several frontlines for control of Kharkiv Oblast since 2024. Fighting has primarily taken place in Chuhuiv Raion and Kupiansk Raion, with engagements also recorded in Bohodukhiv Raion, Izium Raion and Kharkiv Raion.

The announcement of 3 September 2026 placed the latest claimed gains in the north-east of the oblast, within that wider campaign.
