What the European Council agreed on Belarus and Turkey
A look back at sanctions and a warning agreed days before 6 October 2020, and a Lviv theatre anniversary.

What was on the international agenda on 6 October 2020? Days earlier, on 2 October 2020, the European Council agreed on sanctions against Belarus, part of the international reaction to the 2020 Belarusian presidential election and the protests that followed.
Cyprus had opposed the move. Its opposition was lifted after the Council also agreed on a warning to Turkey, a step that tied the Belarus decision to the state of relations between the European Union and Turkey.
The decision also bore on wider relations between the European Union and Belarus.
In Ukraine, the Lviv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Solomiya Krushelnytska had marked its 120th anniversary on 4 October 2020.
