What the Red Cross said about 100 days of war in Ukraine
A look back at the humanitarian assessment and the front-line reports that framed the 100th day of Russia's full-scale invasion.

How much had the war already destroyed by its hundredth day? On 3 June 2022, the Red Cross gave a stark answer: the scale of destruction after only 100 days was beyond comprehension. Robert Mardini, Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), added that a third of the population had been forced to flee in that short period.
Fighting in Sievierodonetsk
The assessment came as battles continued for control of Sievierodonetsk. On 1 June 2022, Serhiy Haidai, head of the Luhansk regional military administration, was reported as saying that Russian forces already controlled 80% of the city's territory.
Strikes on rail links in the Carpathians
The war was also reaching western Ukraine's transport routes. On 1 June 2022, Russian cruise missiles struck a railway station near the Beskydy tunnel in the Carpathians for the second time, wounding two people. Anton Herashchenko, an adviser to the minister of internal affairs, said the strike was meant to halt rail traffic and stop deliveries of fuel and weapons from Ukraine's allies.
Taken together, the reports from 1 to 3 June 2022 showed a war measured both in displacement and in struggles over cities and supply lines.
