A look back at two reports from Donetsk and Kharkiv oblasts in the days before 13 March 2026.

What did the picture in Ukraine's regions look like by 13 March 2026? Two reports from the preceding days, one from Donetsk Oblast and one from Kharkiv Oblast, marked the run-up to that date.

On 7 March 2026, Kharkiv Oblast governor Oleh Syniehubov said Russia had launched a barrage of drones and missiles on residential areas in Kharkiv. He reported ten people killed, including two children, and ten injured. The city's power grids were also damaged.

Three days later, on 10 March 2026, Ukraine's Special Operations Forces announced several overnight drone strikes in Donetsk and Makiivka in Donetsk Oblast. The targets, they said, were Russian electronic warfare stations and warehouses.

Taken together, the two reports show the war reaching regional communities from both directions: strikes on a Ukrainian city's homes and electricity network, and Ukrainian drone strikes on military sites in Donetsk Oblast. They set out what regional authorities and the armed forces were reporting in the days leading up to 13 March 2026.
